Environment

All statutory requirements are met in respect of the property in accordance to the Care Standards. It is a six-bedroom property, of which one bedroom has wheel chair access and en-suite facility. There is a bathroom on the first floor of the home which is a good size and will house a potable hoist other specialist equipment as assessed by an occupational therapist. The home has a large communal dining and living room area and a separate sensory / therapy room where children can take time out if they wish to do so, all children can use this room.


Each child / young person has his /her own room which are fully decorated with the child /young persons input wherever possible. Individuals are encouraged to bring small items of furniture and other personal possessions to their rooms to make the environment as homely as possible.


The home has an integrated fire alarm system with heat and /or smoke detectors in every room with alarm call points and fire extinguishers sited throughout the building.


All staff receives regular training and practice in fire containment and evacuation

Procedures. A plan for fire evacuation is available for viewing in the office of the home. The building is designed for safety and security doors and windows are fitted with child proof security locks. The garden at the back of the home is securely walled and fenced.

Bridge house is situated in the centre of Slough Town the town has a large multi-cultural population. Being central to the town centre the home is close to all local amenities including hospitals, special needs school’s and different places of worship. The home has close links with the local community and staff are committed to the child / young person cultural and religious observance. Staff respect, encourage and celebrate religious and other festivals, birthdays and events special to the child / young person and their family.
